Alexander Payne’s Incredible Career Take on New Challenge
Filmmaker and writer Alexander Payne has built a noteworthy career in Hollywood. A native of the midwest, Payne is responsible for producing and writing more than thirty films. His resume includes nineteen academy award nominations and two Oscar wins. He has become known for his unique, whity style that often mixes humor with drama in current-day settings.
Alexander Payne is a graduate of UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. One of his earliest works, “The Passion of Martin, earned him attention from the film industry. The student film was shown at film festivals around the world and helped to jump-start Payne’s career. He quickly became known for developing films that featured human details of everyday life. One such film is “Sideways” which was produced in 2004. “Sideways,” told the story of a road trip but in a prankish, devilish sort of way. The film earned Payne both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Adapted Screenplay. His other Oscar win came for his writing for the adapted screenplay “The Descendants” in 2011.
When people discuss Alexander Payne’s career, they often mention the film “About Schmidt.” This 2002 humorous film followed the journey of Warren Schmidt, a man trying to repair his relationship with his daughter before she married. The film starred Jack Nickelson and became a critically acclaimed success. The film would earn multiple Golden Globe awards.
Alexander Payne recently made news when it was announced that he would be one of the many jury members at the upcoming 2021 Tribeca Film Festival. Specifically, Payne will serve on the International Narrative Competition jury. Some of the films in this category include “Do Not Hesitate,” by Shariff Korver and “All My Friends Hate Me,” by
Andrew Gaynord. Other jurors that will be working alongside Payne include Lesli Klainberg, and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo. This year’s Tribeca Film Festival will be the 20th in the Festival’s history. It is scheduled to take place from
June 9-20, 2021, and will showcase more than thirty films.
