Betsy DeVos Continues To Work Hard To Help Upgrade The Educational System In The USA

Have you heard what’s going on in Washington? US Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has been dealing with a ton of gender discrimination since being in office, but that doesn’t keep the education reformer down. She has continuously gone on interviews and tours since taking office in 2017.

As the 11th US Education Secretary, DeVos had to follow several other policies from previous administrations on education reform. Many of which have led the public schools in US to a bad place. While DeVos has said that she wants to work with teachers and find solutions, her platform has always been supportive of educational choice. In fact, it’s her one issue where she has been strong and consistent.

DeVos has been a long-term philanthropist, offering millions of dollars for educational causes. She has donors like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg to back up her educational choice programs as well. While many have condemned these programs, she has said that her critics don’t understand how it works. She had also refuted that public funding would pay for private schools.

In fact, philanthropy has a large part to do with why student choice has become so popular. Students can now pick and choose where they attend school. They don’t have to go with the school zoned for their neighborhood. In fact, many parents and students have said that this creates problems, particularly when lower-income areas are ignored or left without. Many areas simply don’t ever get the most funding or resources, if any at all.

DeVos has been hard at work touring the country and talking to students about their options. In addition, she has led the school safety reform movement, starting in 2018. After the Parkland shooting, President Trump put Secretary DeVos in charge of the policy. She quickly got on board with state leaders and policymakers to come up with a new program. They called it the campus guardian program.

These programs would protect staff and students, while also neutralizing threats and ensuring that students are safe at all times. The program has largely been successful with very little to no instances of gun violence in schools after the policies were put into practice.

It’s not clear whether DeVos will be appointed for a second time, but many parents hope that she will be there to continue the student choice plan.
