Tom Chang MD is changing eye exams by creating a way for patients to get their exams without dilation and without a long period spent waiting. He noticed that people do not take proper care of their eyes, often because of the planning required to get an appointment with an eye doctor. This doctor has developed a new method for getting eye diagnostics without the bothersome dilation previously needed. Within 30 minutes of getting to a doctor’s office, patients can be done getting their eyes taken care of.

Tom Chang MD has given his time lecturing and publishing in the hopes of the better eye and patient care. He is an educator, surgeon, and works at a clinic. He spent a great deal of time working on macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, increasingly prevalent conditions. Eye exams previously meant putting eye drops into the eye for diagnostic needs during an eye exam. Before, the exam took over an hour before the doctor could check for eye disease. Tom Chang MD recognized the trouble this was giving patients despite how important the exam was. He was then a part of developing the Acuity360 Initiative to help fix this problem.

Tom Chang MD has worked to better the opportunities for patients and is at the front of adapting to industry innovation. Acuity360 exams are more comprehensive than those done through dilation. The exams are done in 30 minutes, are noninvasive, and are provided by a technician. Comprehensive exams like this allow the identification of problems earlier before conditions deteriorate. When some conditions have no cure, early detection is critical to slow the disease. Tom Chang MD makes a difference in his experience and research. He has worked to remove limits for patients on getting the eye care they need, now and in the future.
