Ara Chackerian Creating Awareness On Environmental Conservation

After a lot of debate going back and forth, people are now slowly coming to terms with the reality that global warming poses a huge problem for all lives on earth. Carbon (IV) Oxide concentration in the air has been on the rise and this is attributed to global warming. The change may be too small to be noticed, but the effects are felt and hit hard. They include increased frequency of natural disasters e.g., hurricanes, natural fires, and droughts. Water collected as ice on the poles is also melting, rising sea levels leading to the sinking of coastal cities and towns, causing a humanitarian crisis. Ara Chackerian is a renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist from San Francisco who has had a successful career revolutionizing the world of health technology and, in particular, medical imaging technology. Despite being a medical practitioner, Ara Chackerian is also passionate about environmental conservation. He co-founded Limonapa Teak in Nicaragua that not only provides jobs to the community but also encourages the use of eco-friendly practices. He also writes to create awareness of mental health and environmental conservation.

In a recent article that Ara Chackerian wrote, he pointed out that deforestation has been one of the most significant contributors to global warming. Trees help circulate oxygen by taking in CO2 and releasing oxygen. Since the onset of the industrial revolution, carbon dioxide emission has been increasing. That has led to a 1% increase in its concentration in the air. It is estimated that the concentration would increase by a further 0.5% in the next decade, he wrote. With all these in mind, reforestation seems the surest way to reverse these changes on a large scale.

Increasing forest cover would do a lot more than just mitigating the effects of global warming. Ara Chackerian writes that forests are water-catchment areas supplying the world populations with freshwater and supports life leading to food security. Reforestation also increases water retention in the soil while reducing soil erosion. This enables the growth of a healthy ecosystem that can support itself.
