The clean-energy startup LanzaTech and Chicago cancer-fighting startup Tempus were named to annual Disruptor 50 list, which identifies companies with the idea which change the world. LanzaTech was ranked No. 43 and Tempus at NO. 5. Eric Lefkofsky is a serial entrepreneur and founder of Tempus. Tempus uses genomic sequencing and machine learning to understand the tumor of a patient. Machine learning helps to analyze patients and medical data to help doctors to treat patients better. In March, new funding, Tempus raised $100 million, bringing the total VC to more than $600 million valuations to $5billion.
It recently announced expanding of its care beyond cancer areas to include cardiology, diabetes, and depression. Early in the month, Skokie-based renewable energy startup called LanzaTech raised $50 million to launch a subsidiary for producing sustainable aviation fuel. The LanzaJet spinout will produce sustainable 10 million gallons of aviation fuel a year. Tempus appeared on CNBC’s annual list for the first time while LanzaTech was named three times as “Disruptor 50”. LanzaTech was No. 15 on the list. Stripe in this year was the top followed by Indigo Agriculture, Stripe, and Coursera. Eric Lefkofsky said that firms working to find COVID-19 treatment are reluctant to share data for data privacy rules and competition between researchers.
