Gino Pozzo – Watford FC
Gino Pozzo is from Udine, Italy, and Gianpaolo and Giuliana are his parents. Growing in a background where both parents had passion for football, he developed an interest in football. During then, his mother had a close relationship with Udinese Calcio football club presidents, and Pozzo interacted with them too.
Following attainment of the age of majority, Gino went to the US for his higher studies and enrolled for a master’s degree at Harvard University. In 1993, Gino Pozzo joined the team of the Udinese Calcio Football Club, a family-owned club. During this time, he introduced the scouting-driven approach, which has contributed to the club’s development and excellence. He also spearheaded the Granada football club’s purchase in an effort to save the club from collapsing due to the financial stress it was facing. Gino’s direct participation in the club’s running saw the club grow to the Primera Liga after being operational for thirty-five years.
Driven by his love for English football, in 2012, Gino Pozzo procured Watford Football Club, at a time when it couldn’t finance its operations and heavily in debts. On acquiring the club, Gino and his family shifted to London to be fully involved in the club’s running.
The Pozzo’s are privileged to be the only family around the globe that owns three football clubs at the same time in Italy, Spain, and England.
