Even though López did not start Hawkers, he was brought to the company in 2016 with a group of the investors to help Hawkers stabilize in financial and provide external capital for growing the brand and increasing its reach. At that point, the words about Hawkers’ reputation for quality sunglasses at affordable prices had already gotten out. In 2015, Hawkers was praised for starting just in two years with the amount of $300 investment and growing into $60 million. Although the number was surely impressive, the expenses kept climbing, and Hawkers was in the damage of being shut down.

Alejandro Betancourt López and the group of investors established the group named Saldum Ventures and they injected $56 million into Hawkers for the rescuing. In November 2016, Mr. López was appointed by Hawkers to be its new president. With Mr. López’s recommendation, the company appointed Nacho Puig as its CEO. Together, they are both providing the necessary leadership, style knowledge and the contacts around the world to Transform Hawkers into an International Fashion Company. Only a single deal with El Ganso, the Spanish clothing line, for having Hawkers as a part of the style collection increased 86 percent of its overall engagement. Mr. López is the biggest shareholder of Hawkers, and he has been overseeing the company’s new plan for expansion.
